Jean Sekt of Sioux City passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013 at her residence after a long illness. Memorial services will be at Noon Sunday at Congregation Beth Shalom. Rabbi Guy Greene will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Jean was born in St. Paul, MN; she was the daughter of Sam and Lillian (Fefferman) Cohler. Jean grew up in St. Paul and lived there until her marriage to Ben Sekt in 1928. Jean was a longtime member of Shaare Zion Synagogue and Congregation Beth Shalom. She was a member of Hadassah and Sioux City Sisterhood. Jean transcribed brail books and was an avid walker. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Mahjong. She also did community service work for many civic organizations. Survivors include her daughter: Raleigh Zucker of Sioux City; a granddaughter: Randi Zucker Shaw and her husband Doug Shaw of Dallas, TX; 3 great grandchildren: Tyler Ben, Cameron and Katie; 3 nephews and a niece. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers and a sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe directed to Congregation Beth Shalom or the Charity of Your Choice.
