Muriel A. Birks

Muriel A. Birks, 76, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at her residence following a lengthy illness. Funeral Service will be held at 9:00 A.M. Friday, August 30, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Deacon Patricia Roberts officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Muriel was born October 30th, 1936 in Onawa, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Bertha "Viola" (Barker) Simmons. She graduated from East High School. Muriel married James Birks on July 20th, 1956. To this union, two children were born. James preceded Muriel in death in 1988 in Sioux City. Muriel loved to baby-sit her grandkids and great grandkids and pets of all shapes and sizes. She enjoyed watching girl's softball and football, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. She also enjoyed tending to her garden. She is survived by her son Pat and wife Sue Birks of Sioux City; daughter Penny and husband Mark Schuetz of Hutchinson, MN; three grandchildren: Justin Schuetz, Stephanie Hoppe, and Ashley Birks; five great grandchildren: Brenick Hoppe, Briar Hoppe, Hannah Birks, Karsin Birks Condon, and Masin Miller; a brother Wayne and wife Shelia Simmons; and two sisters Bonnie Lalumendre and Marilyn Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
