Donna L. Spiegel

Donna Lyn Spiegel, 67, passed away on Friday, August 23rd at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's in Sioux City. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday, August 30 at Myers Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Donna was born in Sibley, IA on December 2, 1945 to the parents of Howard Lee and Vera Spiegel. She grew up in humble surroundings in Ocheydan, IA with 3 older siblings-sister Carole, and brothers Delbert and John. She graduated from Harris-Lake Park High School in 1964. After high school, she worked at Berkleys in Spirit Lake and then moved to Denver, CO for 10 years, returning to Iowa to settle in Sioux City for the last 30 years. Donna was a kind and loving person who showed tenderness and mercy to those around her and especially to stray cats and birds in need of care. Donna was gifted in painting, sculpture, silk screening and graphic design creating designs and crafts for friends and family. She was an avid gardener with a talent for tomatoes. She led a quiet, simple and fulfilling life surrounded by family, friends and hobbies. At work as in life, she thought of others first and prided herself in being a team player helping those around her to excel. She fostered team spirit, pride in work and pride in each other. During her life she worked at several occupations including at Gateway Computers in production and finally Home Depot in the Garden Center. Donna also completed the Graphic Design program at Western Iowa Tech Community College. At each endeavor Donna made lasting friendships that carried over to her next endeavor. The world is often cruel and difficult. It is especially hard on those that are sensitive and kind, unsure of purpose or out of place. Donna often cared for those in need; be it neighbors, colleagues or wounded stray animals seeking safety and shelter. In her life she leaves us with a message to continually offer kindness, compassion and love to all around us. Donna is survived by brother, Delbert (Sandra) of Steamboat Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Avis Araujo (Manny) of Denver, CO; nieces Debbie (Doug) Beauchene, Jenny (Jerry) Stabile, Julie (Doug) Johnson; nephews Ben (Sharon) Spiegel, John (Madeline) Spiegel. Donna is also survived by several aunts and cousins, as well as her treasured friends. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and brother John.
