Stephen Louis Smid

Stephen Louis Smid, 58, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2013, at his residence. Memorial Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Pastor James Thomas officiating. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Stephen "Steve" was born on August 8, 1955, to Donald and Beverly (Seymour) Smid and grew up in Oyens, Iowa. He graduated from Remsen Union High School in 1974 and enlisted in the United States Navy. In 1975, he was honorably discharged. In 2001, he married Susan Thompson, where they remained happily married at their Sioux City residence. Steve was a business owner in Sioux City for several years. He most recently was employed for the Sioux City Community School District. He loved spending time with his wife, Susan, family, friends, and dog "Molly." Steve was a devoted Denver Broncos fan. He enjoyed fishing, throwing darts, boating, and being an active member of the Missouri River Boat Club. Steve was very caring and always known for helping others. He is survived by two stepsons, Ryan VanderMolen and fiancé Shalan Robertson of Sioux City, Iowa, and Nathan and Brittni VanderMolen of Anthon, Iowa; brother Ken Smid and friend, Amelia, of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters, Sue (Billy) Taylor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, sister-in-law Sue (Ron) Theisen of Remsen, Iowa, Theresa Jozens and friend, Dennis, of Surprise, Arizona, Donna (Scott) Poulsen of Oyens, Iowa, Kate (Brian) Feeney of Le Mars, Iowa; three grandchildren, Keyan, Brooklyn, and Brody; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his father, Donald Smid, mother, Beverly Smid; and brother, Tim Smid, Sr.
