Rollan E. "Ed" Jones, 81, of North Sioux City, South Dakota passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at a Sioux City hospital. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 23, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Rollan was born the son of Orris and Mary (Coleman) Jones on May 17, 1932 in Gibson County, Indiana. He graduated from Fort Branch High School. Ed married Francie "Fran" Valerie Melvin on November 23, 1952 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They lived in Sioux City until moving to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1971. In 1993 they returned to Sioux City. Ed honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. After his service, he worked for the Soil Conservation Service. Ed then worked for the Food and Nutrition Service of the USDA where he was a key management person involved in the inception of the Food Stamp program. He retired in 1977. Ed enjoyed archery hunting and fishing. He liked working on and restoring vehicles. Ed is survived by his wife, Fran of North Sioux City, South Dakota; three sons, Thomas (Carla Miles) Jones of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, Donald Jones of Windsor, Colorado, and Steven (Susan Sall) Jones of Santa Clarita, California; and three grandchildren. Dustin & (Emily) Jones of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Jennifer & (Michael) Donohoe of Grimes, Iowa & Sarah Jones of Windsor, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Darwin; and one sister, Betty.
