Lorayne S. "Penny" Palmer

April 10, 1922 — July 23, 2013

Lorayne S. "Penny" Palmer, 91 of rural Sioux City, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at her beloved home, surrounded by family. A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Morningside Lutheran Church with Reverend Tom LoVan officiating. Burial will follow at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Penny's memory to the charity of your choosing. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements. Penny was born on April 10, 1922 on a farm, north of Belden, Nebraska to Earl and Stella (Roland) Sutton. She worked on the family farm through the depression, rode her pony to a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Belden High School in 1939. Penny attended Wayne State College and graduated from NBT in Sioux City. She worked for Palmer Candy Company and the Psychology Department of Iowa State University where she also taught driver's education. Penny returned to Sioux City where she worked for the First National Bank and Allied Tour & Travel having traveled most of the United States and Canada as a tour guide. Penny married Edward C. "Ted" Palmer on June 23, 1951. She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of Junior League, PEO, St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, and the Ridge School Women's Club. Penny also was active in the Boy Scouts of America and 4-H Club as a leader of the Concord Conquers Club. Penny is survived by her three sons, Edward "Ward" Palmer and his wife Robin of Raymore, MO, Neal Palmer and his wife Luann of Kansas City, KS, and John Palmer and his wife Karen of Afton, MN; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and dear friends and neighbors. Penny was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
