Dr. C. Edward Anderson

Dr. C. Edward Anderson, 90, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, at a local care facility. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Nelson Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. The body was cremated and private graveside services will be at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Dr. Anderson was born April 27, 1923, in Sioux City, the son of Carl O. and Kathleen (Kennedy) Anderson. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. Carl attended local schools and graduated from Central High School. He attended Wayne State College, Augustana College (Rock Island, Ill.), Ohio University (Athens, Ohio), and after World War II, he graduated from the University of Nebraska College Of Dentistry in 1950. He practiced dentistry in Sioux City for 38 years, retiring in 1988. He also was employed at the Toy National Bank before World War II. He entered the U.S. Army in February 1943, and served in England, France, Belgium (during the Battle of the Bulge). After VE day, he had a two-month Navy transport voyage to Okinawa, where he served for four months. He was discharged in January 1946 as a Technical Sergeant. Carl married his wife of 64 years, Helen Marie Fricke, on March 25, 1948, in Papillion, Neb. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2012, in Sioux City. He was a member of local, state, and national dental societies, American Prosthodontic Society, Kiwanis Club, Landmark Lodge, Scottish Rite Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine, and High Twelve organizations. He was a lifelong member of Augustana Lutheran Church. As a pilot, he enjoyed flying, motorcycles, RV camping, boating, fishing, and sports. After retirement, he enjoyed spending winters in Gulf Shores, and summers at Lake Okoboji. He is survived by a son, Dr. Alan and his wife, Dr. Marsha Anderson of Denver, Colo., and a daughter, Betsy Booth of Richmond, Va. He had four grandchildren, Christopher and Nickolus Anderson, and Katie and Carolyn Booth. He also is survived by a sister, Kathleen Joy and her husband, John Anderson, and their children, Bruce and Julie May and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Helen Marie Anderson. Memorial contributions may be made to Augustana Lutheran Church, Hospice of Siouxland, and Sunrise Retirement.
