Phillip S. Dandos

The Honorable Judge Phillip S. Dandos, 83, retired District Court judge of the 3rd Judicial District of Iowa, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A makari meal will follow at the church. Visitation with the family will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, with a Trisagion Service at 5:30 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. He was born on Sept. 26, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of Stavros and Eleni (Tsagris) Dandos. Appointed to the 3rd Judicial District in 1983 by Governor Terry Branstad, Dandos served for 18 years at the Woodbury County Courthouse, retiring in 2001. Prior to serving as a judge, Dandos was in private practice with H.A. McQueen starting in 1960. He also served as an advocate general in the U.S. Army from 1955. A graduate of the University of Iowa, he received his undergraduate degree in 1951 and his law degree in 1954. He graduated from East High in 1947. Dandos was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where his parents, Stavros and Eleni, and uncle, Mike, were founding members. He is survived by Stavros and Olympia Haidos; their children, Georgia and Panayiota, Anastasia and George Mastrogiorgis and their son, Manoli. He was preceded in death by his dear sister, Georgia Haidos.
