Marguerite Emily Hernandez, 95, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at a local care facility. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Marguerite was born on July 17, 1917, the daughter of Walter and Isabelle (Hoag) Deits in Milbank, S.D. She attended schools in Sioux City. She worked at Goodwill Industries for 13 years and later at Aalfs Manufacturing for 23 years. She retired in 1979. Marguerite married Joseph L. Hernandez on December 24, 1938, in Elk Point, S.D. She was a member of St. Boniface Church for over 50 years. She loved to cook and quilt, but spending time with her family gave her the most joy. Her generous and caring nature stood out all of her life. Survivors include her children, Delores (Robert) Phillips, Lela Miller and Isabelle (Darrell) Mayo; a brother, Earl Deits; a sister, Mae (Walter) Haltli; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Kay Coyle and Vesta Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her parents; her son, Tony; her brother, Harold Deits; and grandchildren, David and Daniel Hernandez.
