Phil L. Jackson

September 3, 1927 — July 7, 2013

Phil Jackson, 85, of Sioux City went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, July 7, 2013. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Lloyd Grant officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Phil was born on Sept. 3, 1927, in Castana, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Edna (Lewis) Jackson. He attended Mapleton (Iowa) High School and Morningside College in Sioux City. He was united in marriage to Barbara A. Albright on Sept. 3, 1948 in Sioux City. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he worked with the family construction company, Herman M. Brown Co., Carlson Machine and Midwest Shop Supplies. Phil and Barb retired in Leeds and enjoyed many summers in Two Harbors, Minn. and winters in Fredericksburg, Texas. They attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Leeds and Central Baptist Church in Sioux City. He enjoyed woodworking, making many pieces for family and friends. He was a handyman and shared skills with family and friends. He was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed playing other table games. Phil was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to his family and community. Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Barbara; sons, Jan and Chuck; daughter, Cynthia (Boedeker) and their spouses; seven grandchildren; soon to be 14 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Darline Cox. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, brother, granddaughter and a nephew. The Jackson family sincerely thanks the PACE staff for all their dedication and support in helping Barb and Phil sustain a high quality of life in Phil's later years. Memorial contributions may be made to the PACE program.
