HINTON, Iowa | Genevieve Kathleen Flannery, 92, of Hinton passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013, at a Sioux City care facility after a brief illness. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Liberty-Perry Township Cemetery, rural Hinton. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www/meyerbroschapels.com. Genevieve was born Jan. 11, 1921, in Whiting, Iowa. She was the daughter of Glen and Mabel (Solien) Allen. Genevieve grew up in the Whiting area and graduated from Whiting High School. She attended Stewart's Beauty School in Sioux City. Genevieve married Thomas W. Flannery on Aug. 12, 1944, in Sioux City. They farmed in the Hinton area for many years. Tom passed away on April 15, 2012, in Sioux City. Genevieve was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking and loved entertaining, camping, playing cards, dancing and gardening. She liked to go to the casinos and play the penny slot machines, and she liked to sit down and play the piano. She showed palomino horses in the Western Pleasure Classes. She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club, the Saddle & Hunt Club and Card Clubs. Survivors included three children, Tommy Flannery and his wife, Susan of Hinton, Kirt Flannery and his wife, Michelle of Yankton, S.D., and Pam Ades and her husband, John of Cherokee, Iowa; one brother, Wayne Allen and his wife, Sally of Pender, Neb.; six grandchildren, Rusty, Matt and Robbie Flannery, Wendy Jensen, Ben and Nick Praster; and 12 great-grandchildren. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Tom; and her brothers and sisters, Leland Allen, Dorance Allen, Robert "Bobby" Allen, Mona Lou Uhlarik and Betty Schneider. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
