Bernice J. Ahrendsen

Bernice J. Ahrendsen, 79, of Sioux City passed away Friday, June 7, 2013, at a local hospital following a brief illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Bernice was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Ocheyedan, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Edna (Bremer) Philiph. She graduated from Ocheyedan High School. Bernice married Don Ahrendsen on June 3, 1955, in Sioux City. To this union, three children were born. Don preceded Bernice in death on Oct. 13, 1997, in Sioux City. Bernice was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls fan, and her greatest love was to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed Saturday morning, bowling with them for many years. Bernice is survived by her children, Donna and husband, Kenneth VonderLieth of Sioux City, Dan and wife, Jamie Ahrendsen of Hinton, Iowa, and Dianne Buck of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Korey VonderLieth, Kendra and husband, Charles Westfall, Adam and wife, Erin Ahrendsen, Casey and wife, Amanda Ahrendsen, Blake and wife, Rebecca Ahrendsen, Derek Buck and Trevor Buck; six great-grandchildren, Brooke Bomgaars, Jack Ahrendsen, Mia Ahrendsen, Abigail Ahrendsen, Stella VonderLieth and Tyler Westfall; and a brother, Lyle and wife Darlene Philiph of Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents; and four sisters.
