John L. Doellinger, 67, of Sioux City, formerly of Davenport and Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013 at his residence following a lengthy illness in Sioux City. Local funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 1st Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A second visitation will be held in Davenport, IA on Friday, June 14, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe- DeVries Funeral Home. Military Graveside Rites by the U.S. Navy Reserves will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Memorial in Davenport, IA. John was born on July 19, 1945 in Davenport, IA to George and Iva (Bartenhagen) Doellinger. He graduated from Davenport High School. He later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1967. He married Ann Buckley in 1967 in Chicago, IL. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy serving tours in Viet Nam. He remained in the Naval Reserves retiring in 1991 at the rank on Commander. After retiring from the Navy, he entered the banking industry as a mortgage lender at Citizen's Federal in Davenport. He later became a Vice President of mortgage lending at a bank in Dubuque. He then took a position as a Vice President of residential lending at 1st Federal in Sioux City in 1997. He served as President of the Iowa Mortgage Banker Association from 2002 to 2003. He was a member of 1st Lutheran Church in Sioux City serving on numerous church and community boards and committees, including Church Council President in 2005. He enjoyed golf and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He is survived by his wife Ann Doellinger of Sioux City; daughter Christie (Mark) Yaggy of Chicago, IL; son Rob (Courtney) of Sioux City; mother Iva Doellinger of Davenport, IA; a brother Steve (Linda) of Davenport, IA; and a grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his father George Doellinger. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Sioux City or Hospice of Siouxland.
