Howard E. Andersen, 80 of Sioux City, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his residence. Abiding by Howard's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Morningside Lutheran Church with Reverend Paul Andell officiating. Interment will take place in Memory Garden Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa. Opportunity to visit with the family will be available shortly before the service, and during fellowship to follow, at the church. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements. Howard was born on February 6, 1933 in Kimballton, Iowa to Emanuel and Margaret (Marcusen) Andersen. He graduated from Harlan High School, Harlan, Iowa and furthered his education through insurance courses throughout his life. Howard served his country as a United States Marine from 1953 until 1955 and remained a reservist until 1959. He was employed with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa in Sioux City as manager of claims from 1968 until 1989 at which point he was promoted to Corporate Risk Manager and transferred to the Des Moines office. Howard retired in 1996. Howard married Dorothy Beimers on December 20, 1975 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He was a past member of the Landmark Lodge #103, the Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine, and the American Legion. Howard enjoyed his membership to the Morningside Lutheran Church. Howard is survived by his wife Dorothy of Sioux City; stepson Doug Kreykes and his wife Jeannie of Windsor, CO; grandchildren Bryan of New York City, Todd of Enid OK, and Amy of Ann Arbor, MI. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Bernice Linden.
