Dr. Chester Ray Johnson

Dr. Chester Ray "Bud" Johnson, 77, of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 21st, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family, after losing his fight with cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 24th, 2013 at Community of Christ Church, 3232 Transit Ave., with Patriarch Dale Wolf from the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Restoration Movement officiating. Visitation with the family present will begin at noon at the church. Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 28th, 2013 the Highland Memory Gardens, One Northeast 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Chet was born February 4th, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Chester G. and Margaret (Griffith) Johnson. Chet received his undergrad education at Graceland College, his masters at Drake University, and his PHD in special education through the University of Iowa. He married Diana Jean Henderson on January 17th, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked as a Director of Special Education, School Psychologist, and an Associate Superintendent before retiring from the Reno County Education Coop in Hutchinson, Kansas as the Executive Director of Special Education. He was called to the office as an Elder at the age of 17 in the RLDS Church and has served his Lord since then. Survivors include children: Ronald and wife Gena Lenz of Sioux City, Daniel and wife Lonna Lenz of Sergeant Bluff, Debbie and husband Todd Bornholtz of Sergeant Bluff, Jacquelyn Johnson of Hinton, and Jennifer and husband Dan Engel of Sergeant Bluff; fourteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Johnny Johnson. Casket Bearers will be Ron Lenz, Dan Lenz, Dan Engel, Todd Bornholtz, Colton Bornholtz, Michael Lenz, and Jordan Lenz.
