Iona Hatman (Kasch) Trometer

Iona (Hartman) Kasch Trometer, 95, of Hinton passed away Monday, May 27, 2013, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, with the Rev. Steven Stoll officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Iona (Hartman) Kasch Trometer was born on June 14, 1917, in rural Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of John and Helen (Kovarna) Hartman. She attended Hungerford 1 School and graduated from Hinton High School in 1935. Iona married Clarence F. Kasch on Jan. 19, 1937, at Trinity Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death. On March 27, 1981, she married Leslie Trometer at Trinity Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death in August 1990. Iona was an accomplished seamstress and was employed with Williges and Younkers in alterations during the 1970s. She enjoyed sewing for her daughters when they were young and making quilts for her grandchildren. Music was another love in her life and she sang with the Sweet Adelines. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing whenever the opportunity arose. Iona was a longtime member of Hinton Lutheran Church, taking parts in many church activities. She also was a member of the Hinton Seniors, American Legion Auxiliary, Golden Age at Calvary Lutheran Church, Siouxland Senior Center and playing cards with friends. Iona is survived by a daughter and her family, Mary Jane (Bruce) Elliott of Hinton, Stacey Elliott, Julian, Jim (Diana) Elliott, Trenton and Jadey; a daughter and her family, Connie (Jack) Kounkel of Merrill, Becky Kounkel Rohiller, Chelsee, Cole and joshua, Chad (Sandi) Kounkel, T.J. and Tate, Derek (Cam) Kounkel, Lauren, Jackson and Charlee; a daughter and her family, Teresa (Ron) Johnson of Hinton, Kyle (Tara) Johnson, Ryan M. and Brooke, Beth (Cory) Courville, Mckenzie, Cooper and Dominick, Ryan R. (Erin) Johnson, and River; a daughter and her family, Lynne (Jim) Pagan of Sioux City and Michael (Terri) Pagan; her brother, Darvin (Lois) Hartman of Hinton and family; and her stepchildren and their families, Beverly (Bob) Motter of Tucson, Ariz., Marian (Wayne, deceased) Trometer of Barlett, Ill., and Sandy (Don, deceased) Trometer of Merrill. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Viola in infancy; a sister-in-law, Violetta Bollmeyer; and her husbands.
