Gearl F. "Bud" Hanslip, 92, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 24, 2013. Services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Burgess officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Bud was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Dodge County, Neb., the son of Fred and Lyda (Wallingford) Hanslip. He entered the National Guard in 1940 and was deployed with the U.S. Army in World War II. Bud was honorably discharged with various medals in 1945. He married Mary Jane Bray on July 25, 1958, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2000. Bud worked for 15 years at Swift and Co. and retired from the Sioux City Foundry. He was a member of American Legion and a past commander of VFW Post 64. Bud attended Loving Faith Fellowship, enjoyed working in his yard and garden, listening to the Gaither Brothers, but most of all, enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids. Bud is survived by his sons, Richard and wife, Dorothy Hanslip of Sergeant Bluff, and Gil and wife, JoEllen Nelson of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Mearle Hanslip; and three sisters, Drusella and husband Dale Hammer, Coreen Schwanke and Kathleen Tacker. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jane; two sons, Raymond Hanslip and Kenneth Nelson; and two brothers, Harold and Floyd. Pallbearers will be Heath Nelson, Nathan O'Connor, Jacob Hanslip, Randy Hanslip, Todd Mitchell and Brad Dillard Jr.
