SIOUX CITY | Norma C. Johnson, 82 of Sioux City, IA died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Gregory Hanneman officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Condolences may be made online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Norma was born July 25, 1930 in Union County, SD the daughter of Harold and Ada (Upton) Ballinger. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Elk Point High School. On September 26, 1948 she married John H. Johnson at the Elk Point Congregational Church. The couple made their home in Sioux City where they raised their three children, David, Dan and Mary. After her children were raised she worked at Sioux City Teachers Credit Union and for American Republic Insurance Company. Norma enjoyed traveling with her husband. They also wintered for over 30 years in Arizona. She loved being around her family, especially her grandkids. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church. In earlier years she was a member of First Christian Church. Norma was involved with the church's Altar Guild. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, John; three children and their spouses, David and Carolyn Johnson of Sioux City, Dan and Joanne Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary and Tom Stock of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Mary Jane Johnson, Marjorie Johnson, Tom Munson, Jon Johnson and his wife, Jessica and Danielle Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Teddy Johnson, Sydney Woodard, MacKenna and Alexander Johnson; a brother-in-law, Eldon Johnson and his wife, Margaret of Denver, CO; a sister-in-law, Emma Ballinger of Elk Point, SD; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Nancy Johnson, two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Reynold and Viola Ballinger and Richard and Dora Ballinger. Memorials may be made in her name to St. John Lutheran Church.
