SIOUX CITY | Eugene M. "Bugs" Worden, 77 of Sioux City, IA died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial with military rites will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Jefferson, SD. Visitation with the family present will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. all at the church. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements. Bugs was born Sept. 25, 1935 in Sioux City the son of John "Lloyd" and Alice M. (Mansfield) Worden. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the U.N. Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. On March 22, 1982 he married his true love and soul mate, Mary C. (Verdoorn) Peterson. Bugs worked for Brower Construction Co. for 28 years hauling heavy equipment. He later owned and operated Teeny Trucking, hauling various materials until Dec. of 2012. Bugs raced stock cars as number 98 in the Siouxland area. He enjoyed NASCAR, Harleys and hanging out with his boyfriends, and seeing what Stricker was up to. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Boys of '68, V.F.W. Post 1973, Soo Cycle Club, and Harley HOG Chapter. Bugs enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Mary; 5 children, Penny Keleher, Jeff (Deb) Davis, John "Jack" Worden, Ranal "Sarge" (Jessica) Peterson and Riki Jo (David) Boettcher all of Sioux City; 4 brothers, Robert "Bob" Worden and Richard "Dick" Worden, both of Sioux City, Jack (Rita) Worden of Gayville, SD and Mike Worden of California; 2 sisters, Dorothy Kozlow of California and JoAnn Kinsey of Illinois; 18 grandchildren, Joe, Aaron, Nick, Brandon, Brent, Jason, Jessica, Rachel, Deanna, Mallory, Nicholas, Riley, Destiny, Reese, Raylan "Eugene", Justin, Hunter and grandpa's baby girl, Shelby Lee; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; his parents; sisters, Mary Laski and her husband, Ed, Lorraine White, Betty Winn and her husband, Jerry; brothers-in-law, Jerry Kozlow and Dick Kinsey; and sisters-in-law, Shirley Worden and Fitty Worden. Pallbearers will be Jeff Davis, Jack Worden, Sarge Peterson, David Boettcher, Hunter Boettcher, Nick Haines and Riley Peterson. Memorials may be made in his name and directed to the family.
