Sylvia Jean Hansen, 74, of Hinton, Iowa passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at her residence following a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran in Hinton with Reverend Steven Stoll officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Sylvia was born September 3, 1938 in Sioux City, the daughter of Roy and Bernice (Juhl) Jebsen. She grew up in the Hinton area graduating from Hinton School in 1956. On June 1, 1958 she married Thomas "Tom" Hansen in Sioux City. They farmed around rural Hinton until moving into town. Sylvia loved to work outside, especially in the dirt. She also worked at Aalfs Manufacturing in LeMars, Iowa and later at the lunchroom at Hinton Community School. She also cooked at Ampride and B-D's in Hinton until she retired entirely. Sylvia was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church rural Hinton for many years. She was an avid seamstress, sewing not only for herself but doing repairs for many people in and around the Hinton community for several years. She loved her flowers. She also loved gardening, canning, and freezing the many fruits of her labors. Her greatest love was that of cross stitching and embroidery work. She was very proud of the many projects that she completed; making sure that each grandchild received some of her work. Sylvia is survived by her husband Tom of 55 years; a daughter Virginia Freese and husband Bob of Hiawatha, Kansas; a son, Monte Hansen and wife Madonna of rural Hinton, Iowa; grandchildren Katie Freese, Abby Tanking and husband Jeff, Spencer Hansen, Breann Hansen, Erica Eason and husband Billy; two sisters Sue Kroll and Sally Barkley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister. Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. Honorary Pallbearers will be Katie Freese, Abby Tanking, Spencer Hanson, Breann Hansen, Lawrence Lillie, and Steve Nelson.
