John A. Bylin, 71, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday May 19, 2013 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. John was born Sept. 13, 1941, in Sioux City, the son of John and Alverda Bylin. He was a lifetime resident of Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1961. John spent most of his career as an electronics technician and later worked for KTIV as a station engineer. His hobbies and interests were many. He obtained his private pilot's license and flew many solos. He used his technical skills to build and fly model airplanes and to become a lifetime member of the Siouxland Amateur HAM Radio Association. He became close friends with Vets Nemmers which led him to become active in the Siouxland Information Group for the Blind. His hobbies also included model railroads and railroad history. He and his friends built a large model train exhibit that occupied one-half of his basement. John's greatest love was fishing. He would change any plans to go fishing with his friends and family. Many Point Lake near Detroit Lakes, Minn. was his favorite fishing lake that was a family tradition. John spent the last seven years at Northern Hills and made many, many good friends. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Howie of Lakewood, Colo.; his two brothers, Bob Bylin of El Dorado Hills, Calif., and Carl Bylin of Knoxville, Tenn.; and four nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alverda.
