Clarence S. Greene, 86 of Sioux City died on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at a local hospital. Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Mayflower Congregational Church with Reverend Dan Lozer officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 15th at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mayflower Congregational Church. Clarence was born on April 29, 1927 in Greenville, Iowa. He graduated from Greenville High School, enlisted in the US Navy, and served for two years aboard the USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt. On June 16, 1951, Clarence married Kathleen Jones with whom he shared a life for sixty-two years. From that union came four children: Brad, an infant son, Julie, and Alan. He attended the University of Northern Iowa earning a degree in Business Education. Clarence later earned a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Dakota. He started teaching in the Sioux City Community Schools in 1950 and continued in the district as a teacher and principal for forty years, impacting thousands of students. Clarence was active in the Shrine Foot Patrol and in the financial affairs of Mayflower Congregational Church, where he was a member for forty-seven years. He was a proud supporter of West High School and donated fourteen gallons of blood to the Siouxland Blood Bank. Clarence loved playing cards and golf, one of his greatest memories is his hole-in-one. Clarence is survived by his wife, Kathleen Greene; sons Brad of Sioux City and Alan of Freeport, IL; Alan's wife Catherine (Bohan) Greene, and grandchildren Caitlin, Conor, and Ashling Greene. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, an infant son, and a daughter.
