Elbert "Vigil" Moore, Jr.

July 1, 1941 — May 2, 2013

Elbert "Virgil" Moore Jr., 71, of Sioux City went home to his Lord on Thursday, May 2, 2013. Abiding by his wishes, he will be cremated and no services held. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Virgil was born on July 1, 1941, at the family home, to Ethylyn Louise (Walter) and Elbert Virgil Moore Sr. He was raised in Sioux City. He graduated mid-year 1959 from East High School at the age of 17. He wed Carol Ann Aspleaf in September of 1962. They had three children. Carol passed away in 1987 from cancer. Virgil met his future wife through Parents Without Partners. "I married the wonderful, loving and caring love of my life, Ruth Lynne Kline on Oct. 8, 1988. Her son and daughter became a part of my life." Virgil worked at Sioux Tools for 26 years as a CNC machinist. During this time, he was very active in the Machinist Union holding several offices, being the Sioux Tools union steward and becoming an expert in contract negotiations. Virgil completed schooling for small engine repair from Foley-Belsaw School and WIT. He then held positions in Denver and Sioux City as a small engine tech and supervisor. Virgil retired from Sears as a small engine and appliance service tech. During his children's youth, he was active in scouting, PTA and their athletic activities. He was president of the Longfellow PTA and also of the SYA. Virgil enjoyed Bible studies, music, golf, bowling, dancing and remodeling projects. He most enjoyed camping in the mountains where he felt one with nature and closest to his Lord. Virgil will be remembered as a true patriot with a strong work ethic. He touched countless lives with his humor, caring and unconditional love. Virgil is survived by his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Melyssa Garza; his son, Kurt Moore; his stepson and wife, Derek and Becca Kline; his stepdaughter, Heather Kline; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Jan (Zane) Sparks, Alice Neff and Cheryl Moore; many nieces and nephews; and an estranged daughter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol; and his parents. Virgil wished to leave us with this, "Rejoice, I am with my Lord."
