Catherine F. Johme

Catherine F. Johme, 98, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital, after a brief illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Catherine was born July 1, 1914, in Wynot, Neb., the daughter of William L. and Catherine (Reisch) Roth. The family moved to Geddes, S.D., where she attended St. Ann's Catholic School, graduating in 1932. Catherine came to Sioux City in 1934, and worked for different families. She married Edwin Johme June 6, 1937, in Le Mars, Iowa. He died Aug. 29, 1996, in Sioux City. Catherine volunteered at Siouxland Senior Center, and Bargain Center. She was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the rosary society. She helped with the first Friday salad luncheons. Catherine enjoyed traveling, cooking, canning fruits and vegetables, and working in her flower beds and garden. Survivors include her four children, Ronald Johme (fiancée Bonnie Frahn) of Sioux City, Karen (Lewis) Wilmot of Sioux City, Judy (Bob) Brandt of Sioux City and Douglas (Donna) Johme of Longwood, Fla.; a sister, Beatrice "Boots" Gant of Geddes; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed; a great-granddaughter, Whitney Sue Johme; and her sisters, Sister Ascentia, Florence Renz, Dorothy Jacnish, Maryetta Gartner, Viola Huggins and Cecilia Eichhorn.
