NEWCASTLE, NE | Janelle Marie "Jan" Rohan, 58 of Newcastle, NE died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Sanford Vermillion Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle. Burial will be in Terra Hill Cemetery, rural Newcastle. Visitation with the family present will be the hour prior to the service at church. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Janelle was born June 26, 1954 in Sioux Falls, SD the daughter of Milton and Sheila (Roche) Matthes. She graduated from Washington High School in 1972. On Sept. 6, 1974 she married Terry M. Rohan. The couple lived on a farm near Newcastle where they raised their five children. Jan worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. until 1979 when she decided to stay at home with her young children. In later years, she worked as a dispatcher at the Dixon County Sheriff's office. It was her favorite job. Jan loved and cherished her grandkids. She loved to walk. She also loved her animals, her dog "Honey" and cat, "Harley". Survivors include her husband, Terry; five children and their spouses, Nichole and Ben Aitken of Wausa, NE and their children, Sam and Molly; Ryan and Dawn Rohan of Ponca, NE and their children, Aspen, Lane and Drew, Michael and Quin Rohan of Ponca, NE and their children, Cody and Karlee, Shauna Rohan of Yankton, SD and Sheila and Justin Vondrak of Hinton, IA and their daughter, Averie; and a brother, Mark Matthes. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Maura. Pallbearers will be Don Taylor, Roger Peterson, Mark Gregg, Doug Peterson, Ray Kneifl and Ray Schulte. Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland or to the American Cancer Society.
