Ruth was born on October 7, 1917 in rural Denison, Iowa, on the family farm, to Clarence J. and Elizabeth (Hassett) O'Meara. She received her education in Denison, taught country school for a short time before her marriage to Gailen Hain on September 3, 1939 in Denison. Ruth enjoyed music, played the piano, and taught piano in her younger years. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1940, and Ruth worked for St. Luke's Hospital as the head secretary for Outpatient Services for over 20 years. She continued to work on a part-time basis for the hospital for another 4 years, and volunteered until just a few years ago. Ruth was a proud member of The Church of the Nativity, enjoying the Prayer Line, and helping with funeral lunches. She was a wonderful cook, especially the fish that her husband and son would bring home, and family still says, "Best fish, ever!". Ruth was devoted to praying the Rosary, and enjoyed daily Mass until transportation difficulties kept her from church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, specifically bridge, which she was a member of a bridge club that met monthly for over 50 years. Ruth is survived by her son Richard "Dick" Hain and his significant other Bernadine "Bernie" Swanger of Sioux City; grandchildren Dawn Hain, Rochelle Kirkpatrick, and Lance Hain; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gailen in 1991, 5 year old daughter Margie Ann Hain, sister Helen O'Meara, sister Loretta Thun, brother Patrick O'Meara, and brother Reverend Father Marcian "Tom" O'Meara.
