Robert L. Weatherly

Robert Lynn Weatherly, 80 of Sioux City passed away on Thursday April 18, 2013 at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Rev. Tom LoVan will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 - 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Robert was born Dec. 21, 1932 in Cedar Rapids, IA; he was the son of Robert "Bruce" and Phyllis (Sudenga) Weatherly. The family moved to Rock Rapids, IA and Robert grew up there. He graduated from Rock Rapids High School and attended the Church of Christ. After high school, Robert served in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he married Donna DeRaad on May 10, 1953. To this marriage three children were born. He worked for Channel 9 as a broadcast engineer and then in sales for Bell & Howell and Gibbs Cook. Robert also drove a bus for the Siouxland Regional Transit System and Morningside Lutheran Church. Robert was a member of First Lutheran Church where he served as president of the congregation and served on numerous committees. He was currently a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. He also served as president of the Sioux City Children's Choir and was a member of the American Legion Monahan Post # 64. Robert enjoyed boating, camping, traveling and photography. He was very handy and enjoyed inventing and repairing things. Survivors include his wife Donna of Sioux City, 2 children: Steven Weatherly and his wife Judy of Sioux City, Marla Harris and her husband Keith of Fayetteville, AR; 3 sisters: Marybelle Timmermans and her husband Henry of George, IA, Phydelis Hamman and her husband Melvin of Luverne, MN, Karyn Boer and her husband Clarence of Larchwood, IA; a son in law: Paul Loven of Portland, ME; 7 grandchildren: Nathan Weatherly and his wife Julie, Brianna Weatherly, Benjamin Loven and his wife Jennie, Hannah Hanson and her husband Corey, Thomas Loven, Mollie Millican and her husband Ryan, Sarah Harris, 3 great grandchildren: Reese Weatherly, Anders Loven and Blake Hanson who was born on April 18, 2013, the same day that Robert passed away. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Linda Loven. Pallbearers will be Nathan Weatherly, Ben Loven, Carl and Alan Van Ravenswaay, Mark ReRaad, Marty, Justin and Trent Jacobson.
