Shirley L. Thorson

Shirley L. Thorson, 94, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Shirley was born on December 24, 1918 to Elmer and Luella (Appel) Wenzel in Albert Lea, MN. She was married to Arnold Thorson on May 31, 1945 in LaVern, MN. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1990 in Marshalltown, IA. She worked for 15 years as a waitress at the Broiler Steak House in Sioux City and anther 10 plus years at Blackman Brothers in the IBP Complex. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and playing poker with her children. She was a senior companion for many years with the Sioux City Senior Center. She is survived by her children Stanley Thorson and significant other Cindy Guillaume of Sioux City; Montey (Cathy) Thorson of Sioux City; Debbie (Frank) Stabile of Sioux City; Mark A. (Tamara L.) Thorson of Sioux City; and David Thorson and significant other Joann Jessip of North Sioux City; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son James Thorson, 1 brother and 2 sisters. Donations may be made to Hospice of Siouxland
