Archie William Peck

Archie William Peck, of Sioux City was taken home by His Lord on April 2, 2013 just two days short of his 93rd birthday, at Holy Spirit nursing home. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday at Meyer Brother Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Ryan Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Prayer service will at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Archie was born on April 4, 1920, to Charles and Margaret (Hagman) Peck in Sioux City. He attended Everett, Riverside,West Junior and graduated from Central High School in 1938. He attended NBT College of Sioux City. He married Deloris Josephine Kuhnle on June 29, 1940, in Sioux City. He was blessed with five children by this marriage: Barbara Joane, Judy Diane, Richard LeRoy, Krystal Louise, and Patricia Kay. He worked for Swift & Co. as a "B" checker for 40+ years, plus custodian for Immanuel Lutheran Church (1950-1959), and for B & B Construction and Fred Sundt Construction. He also loved doing woodworking projects for his family. On September 28, 1996 at age 76, he married Darlene Ann Dix. For his new bride, he revamped his home with a master bedroom and bath along with a two-car garage and breezeway. He became an avid player of Freecell in his later years and was a strong Hawkeye fan. He served in WWII along with his three brothers from March 15, 1944 to January 10, 1946 where he served on the USS Indiana. He fought at the battles of Iwojima, Okanowa, and Japan. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran, St. John Lutheran, 1st Evangelical Free and a charter member of Living Water EFC where he served as a board member. He also sang in the choir and enjoyed his music. He loved "babies" and his family was his life. He set an example of how to live for the Lord by his faith and integrity spending time daily in reading the Bible. He was a man of prayer praying daily for each member of his family individually. He was the pillar of faith for his family. Archie is survived by his wife, Darlene Peck of Sioux City, three children, Barbara (Craig) Allen of Ottumwa, Iowa, Judy (Fred) Sundt of South Sioux City, Neb., and Patty (Mike) Gibbs of Sioux City; son-in-law, Ralph Eck of Moorpark, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; two step-daughters, Penny (Steve) Wilson; and Julie ((Greg) Truman; and 4 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert Peck, Roger Peck, and Loren Peck; two sisters, Genevieve Hanna, Gladys Butler; his wife, Deloris Peck in 1995; a son, Richard Peck in 1951; a daughter, Krystal Eck in 1993 and three great-grandchildren.
