Charles M. Carter, 68, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his residence. Per his wishes, his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with Chaplain Stephen Peters of the 185th Air Refueling Wing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date in the Black Hills Veterans National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Charles was born on March 5, 1945 in Trenton Missouri to Marvin and Maguerite Carter. He graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, IA. After graduation Charles joined the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was married to Judy McChesney on May 19, 1968 Charles spent the majority of his career managing grocery stores in California and Nebraska. He enjoyed country dancing and was a dance instructor for many years, visiting with people, and spending time with his granddaughter. He is survived by his 3 children Erika (Dean) Labor of Rapid City, SD; Kurtis Carter of Santa Rosa, CA; and Danika (Ken Oyer) Carter of Colorado Springs, CO; 6 grandchildren Ally Green, Ashley Baker, Sara Labor, McCartney Labor, Alyssa Baker, and Jade Carter Oyer; a brother Mike Carter of Boone, IA; and a sister Jan Gaughran of Omaha, NE; ex-wife and friend Judy Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
