Calvin S. Edwards

Calvin S. Edwards, 83, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his home with his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Per his wishes, his body will be cremated. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. At the age of 15, he married Lila Poches, who preceded him in death on March 9, 1986. To this union five children were born, Sheri (George) Nobel of St. Augustine, Fla., Linda (Ron) Mathison of Sioux City, Calvin C. (Margaret) Edwards of Reading of Pa., Doris Jeanie (Mark) Hinz of Tamecula Calif., and Michael who preceded him death on Sept. 28, 1987 (Julie) Edwards. On Jan. 9, 1987, Cal Married Debra (Menke) Edwards. To this union a son, Caleb, was born whom resides in Sgt. Bluff. Debra showed love, companionship and loyal support during their marriage and the illness. All of Calvin's children and grandchildren thank and respect her courage and support. At the age 15, Calvin started working for Wonder Bread and continued his career until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed golf at Covington for 30 years, fishing and hunting with his sons, John Wayne movies, Johnny Cash songs and telling fantastic stories about his life to all of his family. His spirit and personality superseded him in life and will continue in heaven. He gave an equal measure of his smile and the charity of his heart. Calvin was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and citizen. Place in your prayers Cal and his family, his caregivers, Hospice of Siouxland nurse, Bobbie Jo, Mark and Jesse, Family Larry, Donna and Jerry Menke and brother, Clyde. Survivors include his loving wife, Debra, son, Caleb (Carrie Zimmerer), and remaining five children; grandchildren, Tracey (Tim) Hummer, Joseph (Belinda) Rowe, Candi (Brodie) Garretson, Wendy (Tim) Gordon, Wade (Nicole) Mathison, Calvin J . Edwards (Nichole), Cathie (Shane) Peters, Sarah (Anthony) Camu, and Kelly Bynmun; brother, Clyde (Shirley) Edwards; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Donna Menke; half sister, Sue Cook; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law that he cared for deeply. Cal was preceded in death by first wife, Lila Jeanie; son, Michael; parents, Alvin and Mary Edward and Zobeda McIntire; and brother, Vearl. Urnbearer will be his son, Caleb. Honorary urnbearers are his grandsons, Wade Mathison and Calvin J. Edwards.
