Anna Mae Heeney, 75, of Sioux City passed away Friday, March 29th, 2013 at her residence. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Erpelding officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. with a rosary at 6:30 P.M. and a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at the Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Anna Mae was born August 18th, 1937 in Dubuque, IA the daughter of Dale and Pearl (Beck) Thomas. She graduated from Cherokee High School and attended St. Vincent School of Nursing, graduating in 1958. Anna Mae married Douglas Burr on October 4th, 1958 in Cherokee. To this union a daughter was born. Douglas passed away February 27th, 1961. Anna Mae met Ed Heeney and they were married May 15th, 1962 in Hubbard, NE. To this union six children were born. Ed passed away February 8th, 1983. Anna Mae worked as a nurse for 48 years before retiring. Her places of work include St. Vincent's Hospital, St. Joseph, teaching at WITCC, Mercy Medical Center, Woodbury Homestead, and Mercy Behavioral. Anna Mae loved to read, play bingo and casino machines, word search, and watch tv with the grandkids. She had a great sense of humor and the ability to make everyone laugh. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. Survivors include her children: Michele (Mark) Callahan of Sioux City, Teresa (Bill) Hammer of Baxter, MN, Sue (Ron) Gruis of Sioux City, Tim Heeney of Seattle, WA, Scott (Val) Heeney of Port St. Lucie, FL, Tom (Amy) Heeney of Sioux City, and Sarah (Justin) Weitzel of Sioux City; grandchildren: Lindsay, David, Alex, Sarah (Eric), Tony (Kara), Abby, Daniel, Joey, Micah, Melissa, Joshua (Emily), Markee, Hailey, Kayla, Kenedy, Travis, Ginger, Alyson, Sean, Katie, Cody, Zoey, and Emma; great grandchildren: Kaleb, Boston, Averie, Jordan, Addyson, and Aiden; and one brother Bill (Chris) Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Douglas Burr and Ed Heeney. Pallbearers will be David Callahan, Alex Callahan, Tony Hammer, Daniel Hammer, Josh Hicklin, Cody Weitzel, Joey Hammer, Micah Hammer, Sean Heeney, and Travis Shaull.
