LaVonne R. Barrett

LaVonne R. Barrett, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at the Dakota City Cemetery. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. LaVonne was born the daughter of William and Harriett (Ayers) Justice on May 3, 1924 in Dakota County, Nebraska. She was raised in South Sioux City near Crystal Lake. LaVonne graduated from South Sioux City High School. LaVonne married Elmer E. Barrett on January 17, 1943 in Ponca, Nebraska. She worked the counter at Fox Market which she owned and operated with her husband. She later worked for the dental office of Dr. Meis for several years. LaVonne enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and playing cards. She liked to go fishing with her husband and play bingo. LaVonne is survived by two daughters, Sharen Stewart of Dakota Dunes and Jeannie (Dave) Grimes of McCook Lake; two brothers, Doug (Betty Ann) Justice and Frank "Jake" (Maxine "Mickey") Justice both of Florida; one sister, Mary Catherine McElhaney of Florida; four grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and two great great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter and her husband, Louri and Merle Sorensen; son-in-law, Bud Stewart; brother-in-law, Don McElhaney; and one great grandchild.
