McCook Lake, SD | Adam Duane Ellis, 23 of Brookings, SD and formerly of McCook Lake, SD died unexpectedly from natural causes on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City with Rev. Robert J. Schimmer officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Adam was born June 26, 1989 in Sioux City the son of Larry and Roxanne (Thoeny) Ellis. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Dakota Valley High School where he lettered in football all four years. Adam received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from South Dakota State University in Brookings. As a college student he worked for Daktronics for three years. He was offered a fulltime position at Daktronics following graduation and has worked there until present. While at SDSU Adam was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and recently joined the Alumni Board of Trustees for Delta Chi and their Housing Corp. He was also a member of Epsilon Eta Mu Engineering Management Honor Society. Adam enjoyed playing guitar and video games. He loved anything that involved electronics. He was a sports enthusiast and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. His warm smile and loving personality will be missed by all. Survivors include his parents, Larry and Roxanne Ellis of McCook Lake, SD; his sister, Lindsey Ellis of McCook Lake; maternal grandmother, Anita Thoeny of Sun Prairie, WI; the love of his life, Kate Van Heel of Brookings; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Bonnie Ellis and maternal grandfather, Roger Thoeny. Pallbearers will be Shadoe Thomas, Eric Haiar, Aaron Stoneberger, Jason Bellrichard, Mark Thoeny, Kevin Thoeny, Thijs Hammink and Austin Sejnoha. Memorials may be made in his name to Delta Chi Fraternity in care of the family.
