Karol Eve Hoefer, 54, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at her residence. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Karol was born on Dec. 19, 1958, in Sioux City, the daughter of Darwin and Roberta (Van Horn) Torgerson. Karol grew up in the Siouxland area and attended South Sioux City High School. She married Brent Hoefer on Dec. 1, 1995, in Elk Point, S.D. She was a homemaker and a good cook. She and Brent were foster parents to several children over the years. Karol enjoyed roller skating, golfing, and her cats, Isabel and Odin. Survivors include her husband, Brent of Sioux City; her daughter and her husband, Katie and Brandon Byrd of Flora, Ill.; her mother, Roberta Van Horn of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Karen Ivy and Bob Nielsen of Westfield, Iowa, and Kathy Ann and Daryl Barker of Bellevue, Neb.; and six nieces and nephews, Tasha Barker, Tisha Berger, Donnie Barker, Kevin Barker, Darwin Kluender and Kalen Kluender. Karol was preceded in death by her father, Darwin Torgerson.
