Lillian Marie Smith, 100, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, March 16th, 2013 at a local care facility. A Memorial and Order of Eastern Star Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7th, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Reverend Alan Wicks officiating. Lillian was born December 19th, 1912 in Van Metre, South Dakota the daughter of Ole and Anne (Vognied) Freng. She attended school in Yankton, SD and graduated in 1930. She worked in the catering business before retirement. She married John N. Smith on May 7th, 1945 in Yankton, SD. He preceded her in death on June 17th, 1974 in Sioux City. Lillian was a very active 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Silver Chapter #548, where she was the past matron. She was also a member of Women of the Moose, past Senior Regent of College of Regents, past president of the Girls of '68, past president of the Kanduettes, and a member of the First Lutheran Church. Lillian is survived by her nephew Paul (Sue) Freng of Miltona, MN; niece Karla (Dale) Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; nephew Robert Freng of Volin, SD; and a step son John M. Smith of Broken Bow, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: Leonard, Oscar, and Melvin, and a step son James Smith.
