Mary E. Byrne, 81, of Sioux City passed away peacefully at home with her family and friends by her side on Thursday, March 14th, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 20th, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Pastor Brian Howe officiating. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M. that evening. Online Condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Mary was born November 28th, 1931 in Winnebago, Nebraska the daughter of Wilbur and Victoria (Price) Lucart. She graduated from Winnebago High School. Mary married Kenneth Byrne on February 28th, 1952 in Sioux City. She worked for Great Northern Railroad, as a secretary for a lawyer's office, and as a beloved lunch lady at North High School before retirement. First and foremost though, her job was being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored always having her family to cook and care for. Mary also loved bingo, gardening, and her weekly lunches and trip to the beauty shop with her friends. She was an avid volunteer, participating in Eastern Star, PTA, and as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Those left to cherish Mary's memory are her husband Kenneth Byrne; eight daughters: Vicki (Chuck) Lee of Phoenix, AZ, Michele Byrne of Sioux City, Kim (George L.) Davis of Sioux City, Cheryl (Bill) Gray of Ida Grove, Linda (George W.) Davis of Sioux City, Elizabeth (Harold) Schoepfer of Sioux City, Kris Byrne of Sioux City, and Kendra (Brian) Howe of Sioux City; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; two sisters: Sharon (Walter) Gubelman and Patsy Lucart; a brother Les (Sharon) Lucart; sister in law Kay Byrne; numerous nieces and nephews and a very special friend Gladys "Lucy" Traum. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, six sisters, and a great granddaughter Megan Paetzel. "Butterflies hover near our mother, tell her that we dearly love her."
