SIOUX CITY | Karen Sue Kucera, 74, of Sioux City entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at a local hospital. Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Salix, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Karen was born on Sept. 29, 1938, at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City, to Roger and Kathryn (Bratton) Huot. She was the second of four children and grew up on the family farm north of Salix. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Salix, graduating in 1957. On Feb. 14, 1963, she married Arnold White in Dakota City. That relationship ended in September 1964. She married William H. Kucera on July 20, 1972, in Salix. He passed away in May 1981. Karen had resided in Sioux City since 1972. She worked at various occupations in her life. She ended her working career by retiring from Harvest Care Center in 2001 after 22 years in the kitchen. After her retirement, she spent her time doing crafts and enjoying her family. Karen was a member of St. Boniface parish in Sioux City since 1975. She enjoyed helping out with various church functions. Survivors include her daughters, Maureen (White) Johnson of Sioux City, and Ann (Kucera) Walker and her husband, Jerry of Sioux City; grandchildren, Tray Kucera of Sioux Falls, S.D., Lucretia Cain of Merrill, Iowa, Katherine Backus of Sioux City, and Jerren Walker of Sioux City; brothers, Roger Huot and wife, Judy of Salix, and John Huot and wife, Celayne of Des Moines; a sister, Ruth Schieffer of Westminster Colo.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her second husband; a stepdaughter, Virginia Cain; two stepgrandsons, Milton (William) and Terry Cain; a brother-in-law, DelRay Schieffer; and a son-in-law, David Johnson. Pallbearers will be Dave Huot, Jason Huot, Tray Kucera, Jerren Walker, Mark Huot and George Mendoza. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to St. Boniface Church or the seventh floor oncology at Mercy Medical Center.
