Ella Mae Heitman, 93, of Sioux City died Saturday, March 9, 2013, in South Sioux City following a brief illness. Per Ella's wishes, she was cremated. Private graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mrs. Heitman was born on July 25, 1919, in Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of John and Sadie (Jensen) Martsfeld, the youngest of three girls. Her father died in a drowning accident when she was an infant. Her mother later remarried George Farrin and four more siblings were born to that marriage. When she was seven, her family moved to Sioux City where she attended public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1937. She married Donald A. Heitman on April 5, l940, in Sioux City. They were blessed with two children. Ella's nephew, Larry O'Brien, lived with Don and Ella for about four years after Larry's mother was seriously injured in a vehicle accident. Don passed away on Sept. 19, 1999. Ella was a member of Westlawn Presbyterian Church in Sioux City since 1959. She was honored to receive the Mother of the Year Award from the church in 2008. In her younger years, Ella enjoyed bowling in several leagues. She liked watching sports on television, especially tennis and basketball. She enjoyed working in her yard, reading and sending greeting cards to friends, family and church members. Survivors include a son and his wife, John and Kathy of South Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Judy and Rich Enockson of Correctionville, Iowa; a granddaughter and her husband, Kim and Tim Meggers of Grimes, Iowa; and great-grandsons, Trenton and Austin Meggers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; sisters, Dorothy O'Brien and Dollie Spaulding; half siblings, Fern Wimsatt, Forrest Farrin, Ivan Farrin, and Ernest Farrin; and nephew, Larry O'Brien.
