Virginia "Ginny" Slabaugh ~ Rager

January 22, 1952 — February 24, 2013

Virginia "Ginny" Slabaugh Rager, 61, of South Sioux City, NE passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013, at her residence following a determined battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Cornerstone World Outreach with Pastors Larry and Eileen Gordon officiating. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, February 27th from 4-7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Ginny was born January 22, 1952, in Omaha, NE the daughter of Richard and Barbara (Curtis) Slabaugh. Ginny graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1974 with her degree in education. While in Lincoln, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was an Aksarben princess in the fall of 1973. Ginny married Kurt Rager on December 27, 1974, in Omaha, NE, and they have two daughters. Ginny taught for three years in Lincoln before teaching in the South Sioux City School system for 19 years before retirement. She was a member of the GX chapter of P.E.O. and a very active member of Cornerstone World Outreach. Ginny loved to sing and spend time with her birthday ladies and Bible study friends, but her greatest love was to spend time with her family and play with and read to her grandchildren. Those left to cherish Ginny's memory are her husband, The Honorable Kurt Rager, her daughters: Amy and husband Dale Ashelford of Kansas City, MO and Katie Rager of Kansas City, MO; Grandchildren: Madeline and Jonathan Ashelford; Siblings: Anne and husband Kent Loeffler, David and wife Ann Slabaugh, and Mary Schroeder all of Omaha; Brothers in law: Mike and wife Michele Rager of Arlington, VA and R. Scott and wife Kim Rager of Chicago, IL; sister in law Carol Miller of Omaha; mother in law Shirley Rager of South Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, father in law Melvin Rager, grandchild Josiah Rager Ashelford, brother in law Dr. Ritch Miller, and a nephew Matthew Rager.
