Jan "Vic" Brand, 59, of McCook Lake, SD passed away on Friday, February 22, 2013 at his residence after a long courageous battle with Lou Gehrigs Disease. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Deacon Ron Pietz officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Vic was born on November 18, 1953 in Sioux City to James Richard and Ethel (Summey) Brand. He graduated from Sioux City Schools. He was married to Lisa Enright on January 31, 1986 in Elk Point, SD. At a young age Vic knew he had a gift for carpentry. He opened Brand Construction and operated it for over 35 years. He also worked at Mercy Hospital for 13 years. He enjoyed building, carpentry work, boating on the lake, old cars, music, computers/electronics, watching movies, and most of all being with family which meant so much to him. He loved having his grandchildren around and being able to spend as much time as possible with them. Vic was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gerhigs Disease) in April 2012, from there Vic had a tough time but always chose to stay positive and wake up with a smile everyday. He will be fondly remembered for his huge smile, strength and positive attitude. He is survived by his wife Lisa Brand of McCook Lake, SD; children Thad (Tracey) Brand of Arkansas; Heather Brand; Ashley Brand; and Adam Brand all of McCook Lake, SD; special nephew Patrick Brand Jr. of Sioux City; 9 grandchildren Michael, Derek, Tori, Christian, David, Shane, Rachael, Aspen and Emmalynn; siblings Sandy (Russel) Streiff of Tuscon, AZ; Jesse (Myann) Brand of Minnesota; and Patrick Brand of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, parents, brothers Jerry Brand and Jack Brand, mother and father in law James and Elizabeth Enright, and a brother in law Rick Enright.
