Betty L. Speck, 92, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 15, 2013 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Betty was born the daughter of Roy E. and Lettie (Windsor) Welding on January 27, 1921 in Sioux City. Her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she attended high school. She later moved back to Sioux City and attended Morningside College. Betty married Ralph Speck on January 10, 1946 at the Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church in Sioux City. She was a homemaker who enjoyed life on the acreage with her family. She stayed busy raising the children, cooking, gardening, and canning. Betty was an animal lover who loved her dog, Shelby. The family always had dogs, cats, and horses on the acreage. Betty is survived by her husband, Ralph of Sioux City; children, Ken Speck of Sioux City, Dick (June) Speck of Mechanicsburg, Illinois, John (Jane) Speck of Des Moines, Iowa, and Donna (Rick) Brzuchalski of Chandler, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Captain Clifford M. "Tip" Skalby; one daughter, Carole; and one great-grandson, Hayden Nowkhah.
