Douglas J. Kritzer

SIOUX CITY | Douglas J. Kritzer, 55, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at a local hospital of natural causes. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Msgr. Roger Augustine officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the conclusion of the service. Visitation with the family will be 5:30 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Doug was born on Sept. 2, 1957, in Sioux City, the son of Henry R. and Agnes C. (Stoffel) Kritzer. He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1975. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Ill. Doug met and married his wife, Patricia I. Kimball, on April 1, 1978, at Scott AFB. Doug went into the reserves and served with the 185th in Sioux City, the 922nd in Omaha, and the 422nd at Whiteman AFB near Kansas City, Mo. He retired in 1996 as a senior master sergeant. In 2004, he spent a year and a half in Iraq as a private contractor. Doug was currently employed by the Wilsey Co. (Pella windows). Doug loved Star Trek and Star Wars and most anything fantasy related. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, shooting darts, shooting guns at the range with his friends and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Pat; two daughters, Amanda Kritzer of Bellevue, Neb., and Alisha Thiher of Whiteman AFB, Mo; two grandchildren, Mayla and Mason Thiher; his mother, Agnes Kritzer of Sioux City; two brothers, David Kritzer and his wife, Donna, and Don Kritzer and his wife, Donna, all of Sioux City; three sisters, Diane Zimmerman of Sioux City, Deb Olson and her husband, Chuck, of Omaha, and Deana Kritzer of Norman, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry R. Kritzer; and a brother, Daniel Kritzer. Memorials may be made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project.
