Martha G. Hunter

March 7, 1932 — January 28, 2013

Martha G. Hunter, 80, of Correctionville, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at Regency Square Care Facility in South Sioux City, NE. Per her wishes, her body has been cremated and there will be no local services at this time. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Martha was born the daughter of Dr. Thomas W. and Elmira M. (Sutton) Stewart on March 7, 1932 in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1947 at the age of 15 and graduated with honors from Wayne State Teachers College at Wayne, NE. Martha married Rodney E. Hunter on January 27, 1952 in Correctionville, Ia. After their marriage they spent two years in Thompson, Iowa before moving to South Sioux City, Nebraska where they lived for 15 years. They moved to Correctionville in 1970. Martha was a homemaker, as well as an organist in the 1950s/60s for local theatre, Thacker's Roller Rink, and a substitute organist for the First Presbyterian Church. In later years, she served as a bookkeeper for their benevolent insurance business. Martha was an active member for many years in the South Sioux City PTA and on the Correctionville Public Library Board. Martha was a devoted wife and mother, always putting the needs of others before her own and never complaining. She was a member of the Iowa-Nebraska Hudson-Essex-Terraplane (HET) Car Club Chapter. Mom enjoyed all animals, especially cats. She loved watching the squirrels and birds feed in her backyard and for many years had great fun participating in the Hudson club. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Siouxland Humane Society or the Correctionville Public Library. Martha is survived by her husband, Rodney of Correctionville; two sons, Michael S. (Suzanne L.) Hunter of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Eric A. (Lisa S.) Hunter of Federal Way, Washington; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and our special friend, Mary Gray of Correctionville. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Thomas W..
