Chris A. Karantinos, 47 of Jefferson, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Montana while hiking in the Beehive Basin. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Father George P. Pappas officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. A Private Visitation will be on Sunday evening. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 900 6th Street, Sioux City. Chris was born on May 25, 1965 in Sioux City to Andy and Effie Karantinos. He received his education in Vermillion, and excelled in swimming and wrestling while in Vermillion. Chris continued his education in Sioux Falls, attending Augustana College. He owned and operated Carey's Bar in Vermillion, and was an avid sponsor of University activities while in the business until 1998. Chris has since traveled west to Colorado and Montana where he developed a profound appreciation for the Rocky Mountains. A day didn't go by that Chris didn't enjoy the outdoors. He was an avid lover of nature, animals, and adventure. He was a State and Regional Champion in Snowmobile racing; he enjoyed boating, mountain biking, hiking, climbing, skiing, and photographing nature. Chris married Fotene Gennatos on September 6, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chris was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Chris is survived by his wife Fotene Gennatos Karantinos of Jefferson, South Dakota; parents Andy and Effie Karantinos of Mesa, Arizona; brother Nick Karantinos of Mesa, Arizona. Chris will be missed by numerous other friends and family members whose lives he touched with his open heart and infectious smile. "Chris went to heaven from a place of great beauty doing the thing he loved most. We should all be so lucky when we are called home."
