Jack Francis Kinney

John (Jack) Francis Kinney, 91, of Sioux City passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Merlin Schrad officiating. Visitation will be Monday, January 21, 2013 from 4-8 P.M. with family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Jack was born November 6, 1921 in Omaha to John Francis and Josephine (Kelley) Kinney. He received his education in Omaha at Cathedral Elementary school, Creighton Prep and Creighton University, where he earned his law degree in 1950. He served in WWII as a fighter pilot/Captain in the 325th Fighter Group, Checkertail Clan USAF from 1943 - 1946. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross; five Air Medals, and three Battle Stars. He was a member of the Nebraska/Iowa Bar Assns. He served as General Counsel, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Iowa Public Service Co. in Sioux City. Jack was a stalwart Notre Dame and Creighton BlueJays fan. He married the love of his life, Virginia Ann Roach, on June 9, 1945. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of 67 years and 10 children: Michael (Rondi) Kinney; Sue (John) Kinney-Wieland; Mary (Robby) Clouse; John; Jeanne (Ned) Buser; Molly (Roger) Campbell; Matt (LeAnn) Kinney; Teresa (Jim Miller) Kinney; Steve (Barb) Kinney; Eileen (Tom McGrath) Kinney and sister, Alice Marie (Daniel) Kinney-Grady, 28 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his dearest aunt, Catherine Kelley and his grandson, Christopher Wieland.
