Carl Pete Stoltze, Jr. 95 of Hinton, Iowa passed away on Saturday January 12, 2013 at Touchstone Living Center after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 11:30 A.M. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Rev. James Travis and Chaplain Steve Benson will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Carl was born February 1, 1917 in Sioux City; he was the son of Carl and Hulda (Kern) Stoltze, Sr. and was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. He attended McKinley Elementary and St. Paul's Lutheran Schools. After graduating from 8th grade he helped his parents with the family wholesale vegetable garden until joining the U.S. Army in 1941. During World Way II, Carl served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines working his was up the ranks from Private to Master Sergeant. He was personally commended for his outstanding devotion to duty and his exceptional skill by General Kenney of the U.S. Army in September of 1945. Carl was honorably discharged in December of 1945. All during the war, Carl corresponded with Cora Moore who he met at Walther League prior to serving in World War II. They were married on March 24, 1946 in Sioux City. Carl loved to farm and after working at Kraft Foods and the Anderson Farm for a couple of years, he was given the opportunity to rent a farm in Hinton, Iowa. In 1951, Carl and Cora purchased the Hinton farm where they raised their 6 children along with crops and livestock. In 1972, their son John joined the family farm operation which is still active today. Carl loved all aspects of farming and continued to work on the farm until his health would no longer allow it. Carl was very active in his Church and had served as elder for many years, first at St. Paul's Lutheran and then at Trinity Lutheran in Hinton. He was presently a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. He had also served as trustee for his township and loved helping his children, neighbors and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Cora of Hinton, IA; 4 children: Julie VanderPlas and her husband Duane of Hinton, IA and their 2 children and 5 grandchildren, John Stoltze of Hinton and his child, Jeanne Bogenrief and her husband Mark of Sutherland, IA and their 2 children and 3 grandchildren, Amy Hodges and her husband Steve of Scottsbluff, NE and their 3 children and 5 grandchildren, a daughter in law: Pam Stoltze of Hinton, IA and her 3 children and 6 grandchildren, a brother: Robert Stoltze and his wife Elaine of Charter Oak, IA; a sister: Eva "DeeDee" Wickert of West Point, NE; a sister in law: Vera Stoltze of Sioux City; a brother in law: George Moore of Merchantville, NJ; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
