Marian E. Tompkins, 91, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013 at a Sioux City Hospital. There will be a Funeral Mass held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Marian was born on February 5, 1921 in Sioux City to George E. and Mary Agnes (Kusser) Hilliard. She graduated from Central High School in 1939. After graduation she worked periodically as a secretary and legal secretary until the mid 1960's when turned her focus to her family being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was married to Fred "Fritz" Charles Tompkins on November 26, 1941 at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1991 in Sioux City. Marian loved bowling, crossword puzzles, listening to Randy Renshaw on the radio, and baby-sitting her favorite dog Millie. She was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Marian is survived by her 3 daughters Mary (Richard) Wilber of Lubbock, TX; Helen Garrels of Sioux City; and Inez (Kirk) Meyer of Sioux City; 3 grandchildren Nicole (Craig) Johnson; Karlton Meyer; and Natalie Garrels and special friend John Quade. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers, Simon, Paul and Henry Hilliard. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
