Leo John Schnoes, 85, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at a Sioux City nursing home. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army following the services at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Leo Schnoes was born April 19, 1927, in Granville, Iowa, the son of Edward and Katherine (Schlichte) Schnoes. He was a resident of Marcus, Iowa, attending and graduating from Marcus Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant. He was united in marriage to Jane F. Hueser on Oct. 27, 1956, in Marcus. The couple then moved to Sioux City. Mr. Schnoes was employed as manager of Tractor Supply Co., retiring after 35 years of service. Leo volunteered many hours at Queen of Peace. In his free time, Leo enjoyed golf, was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and is remembered by his boys as never missing a baseball game they played in. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Sunday Morning Breakfast Crew. Survivors include his wife, Jane F. Schnoes of Sioux City; sons, Michael F. Schnoes and his wife, Jean of Adel, Iowa, Richard Schnoes and Jill of Des Moines, Iowa, and Robert Schnoes and his wife, Sandra of South Sioux City; two grandsons, Joseph and Adam Schnoes of South Sioux City; one great-granddaughter, Kaylie Schnoes of Grove, Okla.; one brother, James Schnoes and his wife, Mary of Coralville, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Schnoes of Marcus, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Terry Schnoes; two brothers, Raymond and Edward; and six sisters, Viola, Florence, Rose, Minnie, Margaret and Anna. Memorials may be directed to Queen of Peace.
