Howard P. "Pete" Petersen, 77, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at a local hospital. A funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ with Reverend Steven McLoud officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 28, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Vigil at 7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Pete was born the son of Arnold and Mary (Kinney) Petersen on October 25, 1935 in Oklahoma. He graduated from Anthon High School and later from the South Dakota State University with a degree in Agriculture. He served in the Army reserves ROTC program while in college and completed his active duty service in Oklahoma. Pete married Lucy Delaney on November 1, 1974 in Elk Point, South Dakota. He has lived in Sioux City for the last 38 years. He worked for Goodyear and Graham Goodyear for many years and was currently employed at Menards. Pete enjoyed being a handyman with remodeling and woodworking. He liked John Deere tractors, reading, and his IPAD. He was a member of the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Pete is survived by his wife, Lucy Petersen of Sioux City; children, Paul (Annette) Petersen of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, James (Patty) Petersen of Paris, Tennessee, Matthew (Nadine) Petersen of Florida, Timothy Topf of Omaha, Nebraska, Deb Ulven of Sioux City, and Dan (Carina) Topf of Sioux City; one sister, Ann (Denis) Bernaciak of Ivanhoe, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Mike.
